Junior players led the way at the Charters Towers Golf Club at the weekend.

Saturday’s winner was Dallas Douglas who claimed victory with 39pts.

Runner up was Beau Lavery with 36pts, run down Brad Burke 34pts, Rosie Betteridge 33pts.

Nearest the pins 3 and 12 Beau Lavery, 6 and 15 was Darren West.

The opening competitio­n of the season attracted 52 players to the course, which is looking great after recent rain.

Ladies’ winner was Kameka Waerea with 32pts.

Runner up Tracy Morris 31pts and run down Deb Brownson 28pts.

Men’s winner was new club member Nick Brownson who scored 40pts.

Runner up Dallas Douglas 39pts c/b, run down Lance Naughton 39pts.

Nearest the pins ladies’ 3 and 12 was Ros Schmid and 6 and 15 Tracy Morris.

Haydn Champion and Ken Cowan won the raffle.

The club thanked everyone who played and stayed for the presentati­ons, which turned out to be a fabulous start to the season.

The winner of last week’s five-day competitio­n was, Daryl (Boom Boom) Smith with a near-record nett 5.

Calls for the week:

Friday, March 5: Vets front nine Stableford, with 9am hit off.

Saturday, March 6: Stableford on the lakes course, with time sheet.

Sunday, March 7: competitio­n on the course, with time sheet.

The club will hold an NRL

Stroke main supporters Day 4 person ambrose on Saturday, March 13.

Players are encouraged to wear their supporters gear and join the barbecue lunch, followed by a shotgun start at 12.30pm.

The men’s and ladies’ Charters Towers Touch Football season will begin tonight at Friemann Oval.

Games begin at 5.30pm, with new players still welcome to join the competitio­n. People who want to play and who don’t currently have a team, are encouraged to head to the field on Prior St before the 5.30pm games and organisers will try to arrange a place in a team.

If there are sufficient new numbers a new team may be establishe­d.
