Entrants keen to perform
PERFORMANCE spaces are filling quickly for North Queensland’s largest talent showcase, with applications for Fast Track North Queensland expected to book out in the coming weeks.
The variety-show-style event offers a chance for the North’s singers, dancers, actors, musicians, bands and more to perform on stage and compete for more than $6000 in cash and prizes.
Burdekin resident Taylor Res, 14, said 2021 would be her first time entering the competition.
“This is my first time competing at Fast Track, and I’m very excited to be performing with three others from local Highland dance school FC Caledonia,” Ms Res said.
“We will be performing a Highland dance influenced by sailors’ hornpipe to The Wellerman – a sea shanty from New Zealand, which has recently been made famous on Tiktok.
“While we normally get to perform on stage several times a year, due to COVID-19 we haven’t had the opportunity recently. I love performing, so am really looking forward to being back on the Burdekin Theatre stage.
“I was also in the audience for the last Fast Track North Queensland and it was incredibly entertaining with a lot of different talents showcased – it’s also such a supportive and encouraging event.”
Burdekin Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin said it was fantastic to welcome the Fast Track talent scouts back to the Burdekin.
“Fast Track North Queensland is a fantastic opportunity for all performers – from singers and dancers to bands, musicians, comedians and more – to gain experience on stage and be seen by capital city talent scouts here in the Burdekin,” Cr Mclaughlin said.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome contestants to the Burdekin Theatre this March for a day of performances.”
This year’s special guest is Jack Vidgen, fresh out of the jungle from the latest season of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.
Fast Track is at the Burdekin Theatre on March 20.
