NRL star escapes conviction

- DAN MILLS

NRL superstar Josh AddoCarr has been spared a conviction by a magistrate who conceded he did not know the seriousness of his offending when he fired a rifle for target practice at fellow player Latrell Mitchell’s property last year.

Addo-carr (pictured) appeared at Taree Local Court on Friday where he was sentenced to 12months good b e h a v i o u r , with no conviction, for the unlawful use of a firearm.

The sentencing comes three months after Mitchell received a non-conviction, and almost a year after the pair were charged following a weekend away at Mitchell’s property.

Addo Carr’s lawyer, Elias Tabchouri, said there was “nothing deliberate or intentional” about the offending.

Addo-carr also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with Ministerial orders relating to COVID-19 movement and travel restrictions, to which he also received a non-conviction and good behaviour bond.

LONDON: The Duke of Edinburgh has had a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

Philip, 99, was treated at St Bartholomew’s Hospital on Wednesday and will remain there for further treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.

The duke has now spent 16 nights in hospital.

He was moved by ambulance to St Bartholomew’s in the City of London on Tuesday for tests for his heart condition and treatment for an infection.

Barts is home to one of the world’s largest specialist cardiac sites, with consultants that are expert in treating the elderly and severe cases.

In 2011, Philip was taken to hospital by helicopter from Sandringham in Norfolk after suffering chest pains as the royal family was preparing for Christmas.
