PROGRESS OF FEMALE LEADERS ‘FLATLINING’

- LACHLAN MOFFET GRAY

FORTESCUE Metals CEO Elizabeth Gaines says corporate Australia has to do more to lift women into leadership ranks and women need to be prepared to say yes to opportunities.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV on Monday, the CEO of the $68bn iron ore miner said the growth of female representation in leadership roles was stalling.

“Across corporate Australia we do see that there‘s a flatlining of representation of women in senior roles,” she said. “Across corporate Australia there are more CEOS, probably, with the name Peter or John than there are female CEOS of Asx-listed companies. So there‘s more that needs to be done.”

Ms Gaines said 44 per cent of Fortescue‘s board were female, as well as 36 per cent of its senior leadership, and attributed it to the company’s strong performance.

“Diversity is key to our success,” she said.

1 Heat half the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook bacon and onion, stirring, for 5 minutes or until onion softens. Add garlic and rosemary, stirring, for 1 minute or until aromatic. Transfer to a large bowl. Add turkey, breadcrumbs and egg. Season. Mix. Shape into 12 rissoles. Heat remaining oil in pan over medium-high heat. Cook rissoles, turning occasionally, for 8 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from pan. Cover with foil to keep warm.

2 Combine kaleslaw, dressing (from packet), apple and salad in a large bowl. Season.

3 Return pan to medium heat. Add cranberry sauce, sugar and 60ml (¼ cup) water. Stir until smooth. Bring to boil. Add rissoles. Cook for 2 minutes or until heated through. Serve on salad.
