ZAC JOINS IN EFFORT TO SAVE REEF

- AMY PRICE

ZAC Efron’s Netflix series will feature conservation efforts being undertaken on the Great Barrier Reef after the Hollywood actor paid a visit to the iconic Queensland destination last week.

Efron and producing partner Darin Olien shared photos yesterday from their visit to the The Australian Institute of Marine Science in Townsville, where they were taught about coral seeding tools that aim to speed up the

return of coral cover to the damaged reef.

The US actor is based in Byron Bay while travelling Australia filming the second season of Netflix series Down to Earth with Zac Efron, exploring nature, cultures and sustainable living. “@australianmarinescience is developing tools and approaches for enhancing coral reef resilience on the Great Barrier Reef. Learning the ways we can help save these ecosystems before we check them out in person,”

the caption read on Down to Earth’s Instagram post.

Olien added: “Supporting the health of this important ecosystem!”

While the organisations can’t comment on Efron’s visit, AIMS shared on the post that the group had experienced the National Sea Simulator. A Great Barrier Reef Foundation spokesman said: “We were so excited our chief scientist could spend time with Zac and Darin sharing the importance of coral reefs to our planet,

some of the big threats facing them and what we are doing to save the Great Barrier Reef with over 100 reef-saving projects. Thanks for being so authentic in your care for the planet and helping spread the word!”

Efron caused a stir in Brisbane this month before travelling north, spotted in Far North Queensland as well as on sailing trip in the Whitsundays last week.

The crew has filmed in Adelaide, Tasmania, Victoria, the Hunter Valley and Dubbo.
