I’m allowed to look: peeping Tom

- ASHLEY PILLHOFER

A PEEPING tom caught peering into a woman’s bedroom claimed he was “allowed to look” at her while she changed.

Daniel Vincent Prince, 59, faced the Townsville Magistrates Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to a charge of observing in breach of privacy. Police prosecutor Anita Page said the Townsville man looked in the woman’s bedroom window as he walked past.

“The curtain was slightly drawn but there was a gap,” she said. “She has yelled to him to ‘f--k off’. The defendant has replied and this is the concerning bit ‘I am allowed to look, I am allowed to do what I want’.”

Ms Page said Prince had accrued a “concerning” criminal history across the country with records in Queensland, NT, Western Australia and NSW – though she said he had no offending similar to the current charge.

She said his admission to police in which he told officers he “perved” on the woman while she was getting dressed showed he did not consider his actions wrong.

Prince’s defence lawyer said he grew up in a large family and suffered abuse by his father.

She said the man’s life “began to spiral” after he was injured at work and began using his injury payout to purchase drugs.

Magistrate Cathy Wadley fined the Prince $700 and recorded a conviction.

A council spokesman noted Mr Walker’s petition.

“Council calls on all owners to take responsibility for their properties and keep them neat and tidy,” the spokesman said. The Townsville Bulletin was unable to contact RHT directly, but reached out through Defence Minister Peter

Dutton’s office.

No response was provided by deadline.
