Oh baby, what an event
THE good people of Hinchinbrook have been busy, if the number of new births is anything to go by.
Some 33 newborns were presented to the community during the council-facilitated First 5 Forever in Hinchinbrook and Baby Welcoming Ceremony at the Tyto Entertainment Precinct in Ingham on Saturday.
The annual event, which was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, was a hit as families put their best feet forward and enjoyed a host of activities provided by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council, including cultural performances by the Warrgamay Dancers.
“It was very well attended; it was very pleasing for everyone to come along and present their babies to the community,” Mayor Ramon Jayo told the Townsville Bulletin.
“The children are the future of our community and it is good to see that parents are willing to help the district out by helping increase our population.”
The Hinchinbrook has suffered a significant population decline in recent years, although indicators are pointing to a recent resurgence given strong property sales and a dearth of rental properties.
The shire has a comparatively low crime rate, an abundance of vacant land ripe for property development, good schools and sport clubs, a pristine environment and good quality of life.
“We were pleased to also have the cultural performances, it was a sensational performance by the Warrgamay Dancers,” Cr Jayo said.
He also thanked the Rotary Club of Hinchinbrook for volunteering by manning the complimentary sausage sizzle and drink stand.
