Champions in the making chase region’s Junior Open golf title

MACKAY’S Kyle Dowde has taken out the Charters Towers Golf Club’s Junior Open for the second year in a row.

Kyle won the open boys 18-hole prize, and also picked up the longest drive award and nearest the pin.

Townsville golfer Chloe Armstrong won the open girls champion prize, and also won the longest drive award.

Runners up were Addison Neaves from Rowes Bay for the boys, and Charters Towers golfer Kameka Waerea for the girls.

Organisers were pleased with the success of the event, which in its second year drew 39 junior golfers from as far away as Mackay.

An event spokeswoma­n said PGA coach Shaun O’toole gave the young golfers an empowering speech to remember and told them they had much to offer the game of golf in the future.

Charters Towers golfers also did well at awards.

Dallas Douglas claimed a nearest the pin prize, alongside Rowes Bay’s Finn Couper, in the boys open 18 holes.

Koby Willis (Rowes Bay) was nett winner for the boys 18 holes, with nett runner up Dallas Douglas.

In the 9-hole competitio­n, the boys winner was Wendall Jennings (Ayr), gross runner up Byron Sutcliffe (Ayr), nett winner Byron Morris (Rowes Bay) and nett runner up William Jenthe event, claiming several nings (Ayr).

The girls 9-hole winner was Phoebe Moffat (Charters Towers) and runner up was Natalie Moffat (Charters Towers).

Boys winner for the 6-hole competitio­n was Oscar Mahoney (Ayr), gross runner up Henry Jackson (Bowen), nett winner Darcy Muller (Charters Towers) and nett runner up Robert Hando (Charters Towers).

The girls winner for the 6-hole competitio­n was Amaya Mahoney (Ayr), runner up Sienna Montgomery (Charters Towers) and nett winner Ashleigh Meredith (Bowen).

The youngest players took part in the 3-hole competitio­n.

Boys winner was Nate Mason (Charters Towers), gross runner up Toa Waerea (Charters Towers), nett winner Alex Zhoa (Charters Towers) and nett runner up Dominic Gray (Charters Towers).

The girls winner over three holes was Jesse Brown (Charters Towers), and runner up Molly Wells (Charters Towers).
