CALL IN THE AIR FORCE

-

RECENTLY in the media there has been some mention concerning the deployment/purchase of a police helicopter to be stationed in Townsville.

I have to say for what it’s worth I am in total agreement with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and her cohorts in opposition to wasting a substantial amount of public money on such a piece of machinery.

We have parked up/stationed at the RAAF base the ideal piece of equipment for following stolen vehicles identified as being an

Apache helicopter with crews on 24/7 standby.

Now my understanding is that these helicopters are already equipped with vehicle/engine immobilising devices, which are laser guided. (Yet another saving). They don’t need to be retrofitted to vehicles as one of the Premier’s

intelligent representatives suggested some time ago.

And apparently these machines are very fast making them ideal to track stolen vehicles travelling at high speed and being driven extremely dangerously as seen on the television screens recently, because we all know how much concern the Palaszczuk government has regarding vehicles speeding.

The running costs may be a bit high but maybe not when making a comparison with the costs of damage caused to property and written off vehicles.

DAVID THOUMINE, Cranbrook.
