BOON DID IT EASY: WAUGH

FORMER Test skipper Steve Waugh has given his version of the infamous flight to London in which David Boon is said to have downed 52 beers.

“Boonie was pretty consistent,” Waugh told Kerry O’keeffe on The Road to the Ashes podcast.

He was responding to the rumour that the team had sent someone to the pilot and asked for another lap of London so Boon could break the record.

“No truth to the matter,” Waugh responded. “He had no problems at all. He was calm and composed and it was an easy 52. He probably would have gone on to make a century if we did a few more laps of London. You’re not allowed to have a drop of alcohol (today); back in those days it was encouraged.”
