BOWEN MAGIC GUIDES ALL ABILITIES BLACKHAWKS

- MICHAEL THOMPSON

NORTH Queensland Cowboys legend Matty Bowen is donning his coaching hat to take some local champions through their paces this weekend.

Jack Manski Oval is hosting the inaugural All Abilities game of tag rugby league between the Townsville Blackhawks and Mackay Cutters, and coaching opposite Bowen will be fellow NRL legend and proud Mackay boy Martin Bella.

Both teams will wear the respective colours of the Blackhawks and Cutters, and Bowen believes all players participating in tomorrow’s game have their own unique abilities to show off to the crowd.

“I think it’s a great concept,” Bowen said.

“The important part of rugby league is having people included and enjoying themselves.

“It will be good fun seeing these guys play tag footy and

I think they’ll enjoy the rivalry between the Blackhawks and the Cutters.”

All Abilities tag games have been played in Mackay for the past five years and form part of Queensland Rugby League’s “all inclusive” initiative.

Tomorrow’s All Abilities game will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Under-21 Hasting Deering Cup clash between the Blackhawks and Cutters, and players from the All Abilities teams will form tunnels for their respective city’s Under-21 outfits.

“It would be great for people to come along earlier and see the guys having a run,” Bowen said.

“When I got the call asking if I wanted to be a part of it, I said yes straight away because I think it’s good to chip in whenever we can.

“I’m just looking forward to seeing them play.”

Tomorrow’s all abilities game between the Blackhawks and Cutters kicks off at 11.20am.
