Airwaves favourite on move

- SAM FLANAGAN

ONE of Townsville’s stars of the airwaves has announced he’s jumping ship to a rival station and creating a quality onetwo punch with a fellow star.

Cliff ‘CK’ Kern is leaving Star 106.3 and returning to Triple M Townsville, where he started in radio almost 20 years ago when it was known as 4TO.

Kern ( pictured) will be the station’s afternoon presenter, creating a powerful combination with Triple M’s morning show host Steve ‘Pricey’ Price.

“Triple M Townsville is a station with an incredible heritage – much loved, respected and trusted in the community for 90 years, and CK embodies everything we stand for,” Triple M Northern Queensland’s Dan Hill said.

“We are thrilled to welcome him back to his spiritual home.”

The move ends a 15-year stint at Star 106.3 for Kern, whose show airs at midday.

“I am so excited to be returning to the station that gave me a chance to work in the industry 18 years ago,” Kern said.

“To be creating content alongside my childhood hero Pricey, and mentors Smithy and Dan Hill, I’m pinching myself. I’m proud to be joining a team that puts the community first.”

Kern is also well known in the community through his side hustles as a wedding celebrant and being a co-owner of Pop Up Food Trucks Townsville.

“Four years ago, some friends and I realised Townsville needed local events where families could gather as a community, eat some great food and enjoy some local music,” he said.

“So, we started with seven food trucks, and now we have 60 on the books.”
