It’s time for Townsville to get its dancing shoes on. News that multi-award winning Australian artist Tones and I will headline the new Tropic Sounds Concert as part of the North Australian Festival of Arts will be music to the ears of residents all over North Queensland.

Having scored big events such as the Jeff Horn versus Tim Tszyu fight, the NRL All Stars and Elton John, Townsville is again showcasing to the wider region and the rest of Australia that it is cementing itself as a big player on the entertainment, arts and culture scene.

Tones and I soared to stardom when her hit song Dance Monkey spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the charts of more than 30 countries.

Her upcoming show in Townsville is a sign that our city is a place where both music legends and rising stars want to perform.

Joining her as a headline act for NAFA will be established performers such as Tim Ferguson, Popcorn Underground and Nya Nya Ngarri Bi Nya, who will entertain local crowds eager to experience the full magic of NAFA after least year’s

COVID-19 safe event. Just as important as the quality of performers coming to the city is the flow-on effects that will be generated for local businesses and tourism operators who are still grappling with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Thousands of people are expected to attend NAFA as it runs across July 2-August 1, and in its first year the annual festival sold more than 23,000 tickets.

Numbers like that will provide the shot in the arm that our community needs, and provide a win-win for local arts lovers and businesses.

Artists and performers have also felt the pinch from COVID-19, so the more opportunities for them to get out there and entertain excited spectators, the better.

So get excited Townsville, it’s time to rally around this wonderful event.
