PATRIOTS PUT THE CALL OUT FOR LEGACY CHARITY RIDE

- EVAN MORGAN

THE rumble of close to 200 motorbikes will be heard throughout the city today as the Townsville Chapter of the Patriots Motorcycle Club holds its annual Ride for

Legacy. Leaving from Sun City

Harley the procession will traverse 85km across Townsville before finishing in West End.

This year’s ride will mark its 10th anniversary and in that time the club has raised close to $100,000 for Legacy.

Made up of current and former members of the Australian Defence Force the club is hoping to raise another $10,000 this year.

Club vice-president Peter Douglass said all the money raised goes to help those in need in the Townsville region.

“Legacy helps our legatees from the Second World War onwards and that covers all legatees that are suffering within the Townsville area.

“The money we raise goes to the Legacy account here in the city and it stays in the local area.”

Mr Douglass said that people can either donate directly to the club or pay an entry fee to participate in the ride.

“The ride is open to the public and to everyone on a bike or in a car and the ride ends up at our clubhouse in West End where there is an after ride party.”

Raffle prizes including a Yamaha 650cc motorbike worth close to $20,000 will be on offer at the after-party. Other prizes to be won include a Hog Light package, a TV,

tattoo vouchers, tint-a-car vouchers and an Esky.

“Come along to the after-party buy raffle tickets and try and win some prizes, have a beverage or

two. We have a band playing so come along and enjoy the night.”

Registration for the charity ride opens from noon at Sun City and leaves at 3.30pm.
