French duo caught out

A FRENCH couple living on Magnetic Island pleaded guilty to separate charges for a car crash on July 28.

David Kilch was the first to have his plea of guilty entered for charges of driving a vehicle not in a safe condition and driving under the influence of alcohol.

His partner and co-offender, Madeline Meyer, sat beside him at the bar table and translated for him.

Police prosecutor Nathan Smith said on July 28, police went to a crash on Horseshoe Bay Rd.

A breath test on Kilch, who was a passenger in the car, returned a reading of .159.

His partner, Meyer, pleaded guilty to driving over the general alcohol limit and driving without having proper control of a vehicle.

Mr Smith said Meyer had been driving at the time of the crash and returned a BAC of .083.

Kilch was fined $700 and disqualifi­ed from driving for seven months.

Meyer was fined $400 and disqualifi­ed for three months.
