JOBS BONANZA

Townsville fights back from Covid with record employment opportunities

- LEIGHTON SMITH

THE Townsville region has powered through the postpandemic recovery period, creating thousands of jobs over the past year.

According to a prominent local economist, Townsville’s jobs performance has been outstanding, with a diverse range of positions across a variety of industries.

“Part of the reason for the positive jobs performance was a bumper month of events with NAFA, Ephemera and two Townsville 400 races,” regional economist Colin Dwyer said.

As of Sunday, employment website SEEK was advertising 1654 jobs for the Townsville region.

The highest number of jobs advertised was in trades, with 70 listed, followed by healthcare and medical, both with 69 jobs advertised.

TP Human Capital director Clayton Cook said recent advertisements on SEEK revealed a substantial variety of jobs on offer, in the best performance since 2012-13.

“Compared to the same time last year, job ad numbers are up 36 per cent; a strong recovery,” he said.
