Man held over car park rape
A MAN has been charged over the rape of a woman in a Townsville car park.
The 25-year-old Kedron man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody on Friday after a three-month investigation by Townsville detectives.
Police will allege the man raped a woman in a car at Flinders St in May.
It will be alleged the pair were strangers and met at a nightclub before he allegedly raped the woman in a nearby car about 3am.
Since the incident, the man moved to Brisbane.
The man was arrested in Brisbane on Friday morning.
The man has played in local Townsville cricket competitions.
He has been charged with one count of rape and has been released on bail.
The man is due to face Townsville Magistrates Court next month.
Under Queensland law, it is illegal to identify a defendant charged with sexual assault before their matter has been referred to a higher court.
