SADDLE UP TO BOOST FLYING DOCS’ FUNDS

- SHAYLA BULLOCH

HORSE lovers are set to have a barrel of fun at a Townsville club’s upcoming fundraiser, which is giving back to a special cause helping save injured riders.

Woodstock Horse Sport Club is holding its annual Charity Barrel Bash, raising money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Club president Ian Turner said the club had come a long way from when it started in 1993.

“When the club originally started they only had approximately 25 members and it has since grown to approximately 110-plus with many day members coming for each event,” Mr Turner said. “This year the club has chosen the RFDS (as the fundraiser recipient) and it is very fitting as many of our members live rural or have family and friends who live in remote areas where the RFDS is a vital valuable service.”

The event on September 4 will include barrel races and activities every horse enthusiast will love, as well as a highly anticipated bikini barrel race.

More than $7000 in prize money is up for grabs.
