Cigarettes may vanish
MORE than half of Australians support the removal of cigarettes from retail shops within the next 10 years, a new study has found.
Almost two-thirds of respondents said it was fair to implement the phase-out of cigarette sales within 10 years. However, support for the ban has dropped since 2009, when 72 per cent of those surveyed supported a phase out.
Dr Emily Brennan, senior research fellow at the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer at Cancer Council Victoria, said there was more work to be done to get Australians on board.
