Prison for shaking genitals at teen girls

- CAMERON BATES

A RECIDIVIST criminal on a suspended jail sentence is now behind bars after he was convicted of exposing his genitals to two underage girls.

Damon James Mills, 28, who appeared in the Ingham Magistrates Court on Thursday, was jailed for eight months on two counts of indecent treatment of a child aged under 16 in Mackay on June 7 last year.

Mills, who has an eightpage criminal history and was on a suspended prison sentence at the time of the incident, was also convicted on three other comparatively minor charges, including failing to properly dispose of a used hypodermic needle.

Acting Magistrate Scott Luxton said Mills began yelling sexual comments and making rude gestures at two 15-year-old girls, who then started walking towards one of their homes.

“At one point they’ve turned around to see you following them,” he said.

“While looking at you, they’ve observed you to pull down your pants, exposing your genitals and shaking your genitals at them.”

Mr Luxton said Mills followed the girls, and one of the victim’s mothers could see the defendant sitting 15m from the rear of the property.

He said Mills then fled after he was physically challenged by a victim’s father.

Mrluxton said the behaviour was distressing to the girls, aggravated by the fact he was on a suspended prison sentence, the nature of which cannot be published.

Defence lawyer Lorelei Billing said Mills described himself as having a “sh-t life”.

Mr Luxton said given Mills’ criminal history and suspended prison sentence, he would be jailed for eight months, of which he must serve a third behind bars.
