Minto has belief in Brendan’s

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

SCOTT Minto believes his St Brendan’s College side has peaked at the perfect time.

A team-first mentality that has been galvanised by the sheer amount of travel the side has done this season has come to the fore in the past month.

Strong games against Aaron Payne Cup heavyweights Kirwan High and Ignatius Park College has instilled belief in the side that they can break through for glory.

But to do it, they will have to overcome a Kirwan High juggernaut that has won six of the past seven Aaron Payne Cups.

“The last time we played Kirwan, it set us up to get to where we are,” Minto said. “We defended for a lot of periods of that game and we held our own.

“The boys knew they played average and they had a lot still to give and we have just built on that. That showed against Ignatius Park last week. We got out there and played hard.

“We have just built on a strong connection in our side. That has been our mantra and our motto for the year, it is all about connection.”

While their forward pack doesn’t have the size or strength of Kirwan High, and their backline lacks the talent and skill of Ignatius Park, it has been the heart and commitment of St Brendan’s College that has given them a shot.
