Young hockey stars on the hunt for glory

- SUE CHAMPION HOCKEY HIT UP

TOWNSVILLE Hockey Association will be awash with painted faces, coloured hair, balloons, streamers and team flags this weekend as junior teams battle it out for the premiership trophy.

After playing in a long season, junior teams will play their grand finals on Saturday.

Families, friends and senior members of each club will be out in force, donned in their club colours, cheering their teams towards victory. While the supporters are doing all the cheering, the teams will be playing hard to finish their season the top of the ladder and walk away victorious.

Grand final day is also a chance for THA to recognise those junior players and officials who have achieved and performed to their highest level with the presentation of the association trophies. This includes recognising and rewarding those umpires who were allocated a grand final game to adjudicate.

The junior grand finals will start with the under-13 Division 1 final at 8am with the last of the grand finals starting at 11.30am with the under-15 Division 1 teams. The finals will go to penalty shootouts should there be a draw in regular time.

The youngest teams don’t miss out on the fun of grand final day. While they won’t play in a grand final, the under-10 teams will be able to play against their coaches and parents for their last game before a march past on the turf.

Once the excitement of the junior grand finals is over, the seniors will continue on the road to their own grand finals with an afternoon of senior preliminary finals.
