Dinner and a laugh
BY JOVE, another theatre restaurant comedy is coming to the Towers Players later this month and it’s a comedy you won’t want to miss.
The Charters Towers amateur theatre group is putting on a production of Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery.
It’s a retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Classic, The Hound of the Baskervilles,
which has been transformed into a funny adventure by Ken Ludwig.
In this production Holmes and Dr Watson brave the desolate moors before a family curse dooms its newest heir.
The intrepid investigators, played by Alex Dawson (Holmes) and Kameron Smith (Watson) will escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises and deceit as their co-stars Jody Read,
Rowan Lowe and Will Kruger play dozens of characters around them.
Read said producing Baskerville for the three course theatre restaurant, catered this time by the Stock Exchange Cafe, was an obvious choice following the success of the Towers Players production of 39 Steps last year.
“It went down so well, the audience loved it so we decided to do something similar,” she said.
“We didn’t get to share 39 Steps with as many people because of Covid restrictions, so it will be nice to do something bigger this time.
“Everyone knows about Sherlock and Watson, even if they don’t know the story this play is derived from.”
Read said the experienced cast enjoyed the plethora of characters that featured in the performance as the production was kept small.
“We get the opportunity to
play so many different characters this way,” she said.
The show would be performed at the St Paul’s Playhouse in Mosman St, Charters Towers, on September 10, 11, 17 and 18.
Tickets for the two-and-ahalf hour production, which includes the cost of the meal, are $55 and available online at https://bit.ly/3dznar6 or you can contact Rowan to arrange to pay cash on 0422 550 260.
