Three rinks fire up for bowlers

THERE were only 16 local players and one visitor in attendance at the Gold City Bowls Club on Sunday.

On rink one, Harry Bartlett and Betty Johnstone played Ian Barrett and Ian Barrett.

Harry and Betty went scoreless for the first seven ends during which Ian only scored eight shots. This gave Ian and Tina a winning margin. On rink two, Shirley Gravenall, Ken Peace and Bill Bowen played Errol Shuttlewor­th, Grace Gleeson and Wayne Lestone.

Bill got away well leading 13-4 after eight ends. Wayne came back after smoko but was unable to catch his opponent losing 17-22.

On rink three, John Lestone, John Sealy and Paul played Laurie Laidlow, Bob Wine, Dan Speer and Daniel Dunne. Dan won the first five ends only gaining the one shot on each end.

Paul came good after smoko and hit the lead after 15 ends. The lead changed every end. Paul and his crew coming home the stronger, winning 18-12.

On Saturday, Aron and Clint Macpherson had a comfortabl­e win over Tom O’brien and Bob Wine in the pairs.

Adrian Peno played Colby Coffison on Sunday in the A singles. Colby kept Adrian busy for a while but the experience of Adrian won out at the end.

The wet weather washed out play on Tuesday.

If you’re interested in playing bowls at the club on Prior St, you need to get your name to the clubhouse for play on Tuesday at 8am to start at 8.30am and Wednesday and Sunday afternoons names in by 12.30pm for 1pm starts.
