SOLDIERS HELP LEGACY

- EVAN MORGAN

HUNDREDS of soldiers from 3rd Brigade will be surging through the streets of Townsville today collecting much-needed donations for Legacy.

Brigade commander Brigadier Kahlil Fegan said Legacy Week was extremely important and a great opportunity for members of the Australian Defence Force to help collect donations.

“These donations will be used to support the families of our service men and woman who have made that ultimate sacrifice during operation or in peace time,” he said. “For me as a soldier it has always been reassuring that if something should happen to me in operations or in training that there is an organisation that solely exists to help look after my family.

“Some families may need a little bit of support and others may need a lot but Legacy is there to support them in their darkest moments and in the years thereafter.

“So Legacy is an exceptional organisation and very worthy of our support.”

He said that today the brigade would do a surge into Townsville and surrounds.

“I will be pushing hundreds of solders out and they will be in our shopping centres and on street corners at sets of traffic lights,” he said.

“So if you have some spare change at home throw it in your pocket and if you pass a soldier on your way to work that is a chance to make a donation to something that really matters.”
