NAIF HAS BEEN LEFT IN A MESS BY FEDS
IT seems there are some real problems going on inside the Northern Australia Infrastructure Fund. Yesterday it was revealed the organisation had rejected a loan request from the The Morris Group for a new hotel beside the current The Ville Resort and Casino at the marina.
What upset most people was the fact The Morris Group had been told to put forward an application for the loan with politicians and those involved in the organisation saying the development met the criteria.
The plan was to build an $80m fivestar hotel and super yacht marina next to the current resort.
The project was expected to create hundreds of jobs and fill a tourism void missing in Townsville.
Understandably Morris Group owner Chris Morris said the financier had wasted the company’s time just as the company was ready to break ground on the new hotel.
Today, the Townsville Bulletin can reveal NAIF doesn’t have one Queenslander on the current board, let alone a North Queenslander.
