Short Story Competition winners announced

-

SIX BURDEKIN students will have their work published in a special local book following their entries being selected as the winners of the 2021 Burdekin Library Children’s Short Story Competition.

The competition, held throughout August, challenged junior school students to write a short story based on the topic of ‘The story of me, the story of you and how we are becoming us.’

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin said the competition was well-supported in its inaugural year.

“I want to thank all children who submitted entries in the Burdekin Library’s 2021 Children’s Short Story Competition – there were so many brilliant entries that it was the judges to select winners,” Cr Mclaughlin said.

“The calibre of entries was so high that a number of highly commended entries were also selected. Winners and runners up will have their entries published in a special book to be published, which they will receive a copy of and which will also be stored in the Burdekin Library’s local history collection.

“Stay tuned, because the Children’s Short Story Competition is set to return next year following its success this year.”
