RAINY DAY DELIVERS MORE THAN PAST FOUR MONTHS

THE Ayr weather radar station recorded 58.8mm of rain on Tuesday, August 31, the most in a single day since March 1.

Prior to August 30, the Ayr weather radar station received 20.8mm of rain from April 27 to August 30.

On Tuesday the Ayr weather radar station recorded more than double the amount of rain it has received in the past 126 days.

According to a report issued by the Bureau of Meteorolog­y,

Tuesday’s weather was cloudy with a 90 per cent chance of raining, tending to showers during the day with the chance of a thundersto­rm.

Easterly winds of 20 to 30 km/h were also expected and the maximum temperatur­e was 23 degrees.

According to the Bureau of Meteorolog­y, a weak ridge extended over eastern Queensland.

“A trough will linger over the central interior for a day or two, with a second trough weakening near the tropical coast today.

“A high in the northern Tasman

Sea will strengthen before moving into the southern Tasman Sea on Wednesday, extending and maintainin­g a firm ridge across most of the state.”

The last time Ayr received more rain in a single day was March 1 when it recorded 132.4mm of rain.
