Panthers put on brilliant display

- CONTRIBUTED

THE Kalamia Hotel Premiers have continued their great run of form with a victory against third place Saints on Saturday night.

Elliot Dal Santo opened the scoring with a goal just three minutes into the game, and a physical game followed. The Saints equalised just before half time to level the scores at 1-1.

The second was also very intense, however the Panthers managed to score three goals in ten minutes to put the contest to bed.

Ryan Scodellaro gave Burdekin the lead with a great strike over the keeper’s head, before Mark Grasso made it 3-1.

Elliott Dal Santo got his second goal of the night to see Burdekin rampant 4-1 winners, moving them into fourth place.

The Burdekin Tyre Service Reserves didn’t help their finals chances, with a 2-1 loss against Saints on Saturday night.

Burdekin should’ve taken the lead numerous times early in the match before having to defend well late in the half to keep the score at 0-0 at half time.

In the second half Burdekin took the lead with a great strike from Jay Leckenby, before relinquishing the lead immediately following a free kick from Saints.

Both teams pushed for the winner and Saints scored a scrappy goal with only minutes remaining to take a 2-1 win and keep their finals hopes alive.

The FDS second division team won 2-0 against Saints on Saturday guaranteeing themselves a finals position as a result.

Burdekin started the game very well, having all the possession and shots at goal in the first half.

Oliver Gabiola gave Burdekin the lead with a neat finish and Damien Casella doubled the lead soon after for a 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half was a lacklustre affair with Burdekin unable to add any further goals despite a lot of chances in front of goal and some desperate defending from Saints.

The Austral Masonry Funkies were at home on Friday night against Warriors RDO hoping to avenge a 5-0 defeat earlier in the season and managed to score the opening goal via a penalty.

A tight first half finished at 1-0 to Burdekin. The Burdekin started the second half in the best possible way doubling their lead after only two minutes through Chris Achille.

A third goal was added in the 76 minutes by Adam Mottin to make it a good win to the Funkies.

In women’s football, The Kalamia Hotel Premier Women took on second placed Warriors.

Tegan Johnson put the Burdekin in front after a oneon-one with the Warriors keeper.

The Premiers were not able to keep out the Warriors attack and went down 3-1, a score line that did not reflect the determined efforts of the Burdekin team.

The CA Contracting Reserve Women played away to Warriors on Friday night managed to record a 3-0 victory.

The goals came courtesy of Bianca Pontarelli and Kate Neal.
