ART SOCIETY EXHIBITION CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

- SATRIA DYER-DARMAWAN

THE Burdekin Art Society celebrated their 50th anniversary this past week, and 242 pieces of art were on exhibition at the Burdekin Theatre.

The society was first founded in 1971 by Helen Bosworth’s mother.

“My mother was passionate about the arts and the community and together with other key members of the community in 1971, the Burdekin Community Art Society was formed,” Ms Bossworth said.

“With the dedication of the artistic community of the Burdekin, the exhibition has come a long way since 1971.

“From those humble beginnings, the dedication to art in the Burdekin community has continued.

“Through the efforts of past and present members and support of the Burdekin community, the Burdekin Art Society continues to showcase the work of many talented local artists.”

Local Burdekin artist Uli Liessmann has been involved with the society for 48 years and had two prominent paintings on display, Come unto Me and Lost? Maybe.

Come unto Me received first prize in the Section 1 open.

The art exhibition is at the Burdekin Theatre today from 10am to 5pm, and Saturday 10am to 8pm.
