DOGS BARKING TO WOOFSTOCK BEAT

- SAM FLANAGAN

IT’S proven to be a major success in the Top End and this weekend Townsville will get to experience an event that has local pooches barking mad.

Woofstock is a four-footed festival for man’s best friend, as well as their human being, held at the Townsville

Showgrounds tomorrow. Organiser Dave Daly said he was excited to hold the event in North Queensland after it was established in Darwin 10 years ago.

“I was a bit concerned with what was happening on the Gold Coast,” Mr Daly said.

“But our fearless leader (Annastacia Palaszczuk) has given us double doughnuts (no new Covid cases or deaths) so our dog whisperer Chris de Aboitz is able to come up.”

The event features competitions including Waggiest Tail, Dog – You Got Talent and K9 Top Model.

“Most of the competitions are close to being full,” Mr Daly said.

“The amount of people with dogs in this city is incredible. The weather will be fine and it will be a big day out for dogs.”

Mr Daly said there would also be prizes for best dressed and a ‘running of the dogs’, among other competitions, along with food trucks.

The event is being held from 8.30am-3pm on Sunday.

Tickets cost $5 per person or $15 for a family.
