MP’S case returns to court
THE lawyer representing Mundingburra MP Les Walker has asked for a further adjournment in the case against the first-term state politician.
Walker, 61, appeared before court for the first time in August charged with common assault and being drunk and disorderly.
The charges stem from an alleged altercation with a man outside a pub on Palmer St on July 30.
Walker, who was not required to appear in court, was represented by defence lawyer Bill O’toole during the brief mention on Friday.
In the brief mention before Magistrate Viviana Keegan, Mr O’toole asked for an adjournment to allow prosecutors more time to consider an application submitted on behalf of Walker. The details of the submission have not been aired to the court.
Police prosecutor Sergeant John Moran said the submission was still “under consideration” and that there had been “some very earnest consideration” but, that he was not in a position to finalise the outcome.
Walker’s case will return to court on Friday, September 10.
