Genuine Kiwi utility the ace Old Boys are counting on

- NICK WRIGHT

A RARE commodity in Townsville rugby union could be the injection North Ward needs to make what could be a historic grand final.

Kiwi product Angus Chrisp had barely been on the field when he came off the bench against Western Suburbs last week, however he immediately made his presence felt.

Coming on at outside centre, Chrisp touched down in the corner before scoring a 70m runaway try off an intercept to cement the Old Boys’ 39-10 elimination final triumph.

Now they have Brothers to contend with today, the one team North Ward have been unable to beat in 2021.

It was at this point last season, and against the same opposition, which ended their quest for a maiden Agrade title, but coach Scott O’neill was adamant things were very different this time around. With more experience in finals football under his players’ belts, the club life member said their preparation for the do or do clash had surpassed how they built up to the contest in the past.

And Chrisp could prove to be the

X-factor and genuine utility not often seen who breaks the game wide open.

“He’s good to have coming off the bench, he adds some energy for us. He’s been great for us as a club for a long period of time and he’s loving being around the group,” O’neill said.

“He’s a New Zealander so he can play anywhere. He’ll come off the bench and be whatever we want him to be. That’s credit to himself, he’s willing to play anywhere.

“He’s a busy bee around the ball and the contact zone so we’re looking forward to him getting on.”
