He said police will now be without vital resources.

“It’s definitely taken away from resources we use to actively police this town … some of them aren’t able to be driven, others will require some minor fixing, for example the ones with windscreens are a fairly quick-fix for us.

“The ones that are taken off the road long term do pose a significant drain on our resourcing.”

Supt Lawson said a num

ber of cars were stolen and used in the attacks, with police actively targeting known offenders to track down those responsible.

“A number of the cars were stolen (on Sunday), there were four in particular that were involved in the offending. Of those, we have recovered one. Three remain outstanding.

“We haven’t got an indication of who the specific people are, there is obviously a core group of offenders within the Townsville police area that we actively target and identify regularly in these type of offences.

“We are looking at and shoring up evidence around who is responsible for the instances (on Sunday night and Monday) and making sure they are held to account.”
