TASTE OF BRAZIL IS BACK IN TOWN

- TONY RAGGATT

A TRADITIONAL Brazilian churrasco restaurant, Chico Rio, is reopening under new management in Townsville’s Flinders St East.

Head chef and partner Raymond Santos said the restaurant had been closed since May due to unforeseen circumstances, but they were reopening for a third time after first starting trade eight years ago.

“The community has always loved and enjoyed what we have to offer as we bring a completely different atmosphere and cuisine,” Mr Santos said.

“Our food is slowly cooked over hot coals, which is then served by our ‘passadores’ who carve directly on to your plate.

“We offer all you can eat and ensure our customers always leave the restaurant with a full stomach.”

Mr Santos said they had three managing directors, who collaborated to ensure a positive environment.

“We have given our previous staff members the opportunity to jump on board again, to which they have come back with the same enthusiasm and passion for the business as we have,” Mr Santos said.

He said dance school Bella Dance Affairs would dance inside the restaurant to generate a fun atmosphere on busy nights.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s been very tough for the hospitality community and we hope that by reopening our wonderful restaurant, we will get the community back in our doors and supporting our journey,” he said. The restaurant opened Friday.
