ELIZABETH I Queen of England

The daughter of Henry VIII, Elizabeth was born at Greenwich Palace in 1533. The last of the five monarchs of the House of Tudor, Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England and Ireland in 1558. She reigned until her death in 1603. She was buried at Westminste­r Abbey.

JOHN MCDOUALL STUART Australian explorer

Mcdouall Stuart was born in Dysart, Fife, Scotland in 1815.

Mcdouall Stuart arrived in the young colony of South Australia in 1838. he led the first expedition to traverse Australia from south to north and return, in 1863.

CJ DENNIS Australian poet

A poet and journalist, Dennis was born in Auburn, South Australia, in 1876. He is known for his best-selling verse novel The Songs of a Sentimenta­l Bloke. Dennis also collaborat­ed with Banjo Patterson and Henry Lawson.

LAURA ASHLEY Fashion designer

Ashley was born in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in 1925. She first made furnishing materials in the 1950s, but expanded her business into clothing design and manufactur­e in the 1960s.

BUDDY HOLLY American musician

Charles Hardin “Buddy” Holley was born in Lubbock, Texas in 1936. he toured Australia in 1958 after success with the single That’ll Be The

Day. He died in a plane crash in 1959.

MARK MCCUMBER American golfer

Born in Jacksonvil­le, Florida, in 1951, Mccumber turned profession­al in 1974 and joined the PGA Tour in 1978. He won 10 times on the PGA Tour, including the Players Championsh­ip in 1988 and the Tour Championsh­ip in 1994.

CORBIN BERNSEN American actor

Born in North Hollywood in

1954, Bersen is an actor and director best known for his work in the television series LA Law. He received Emmy and Golden Globe nomination­s for his portrayal of the lawyer Arnold Becker.
