CHAMPION FUNDRAISERS
STUDENTS at St Joseph’s Catholic School The Strand have helped raise a whopping $10,000 for the Vinnies Winter Appeal this year, proving that kids can make a difference.
The students used their entrepreneurial skills to create products and services for the school community as part of their annual Beachathon fundraiser.
Prep students led the charge with an art gallery, Year 1 students hosted a PJS and Popcorn event, the Year 2s sold screen printed bags and scrunchies, Year 3s hosted a bake sale, Year 4s a Movie in the Hall, while a special Market Day saw Year 5 students turn trash into treasure and Year 6 students created products as part of their economics and business stalls.
Principal Tim Ham said that this year Beachathon was an opportunity for Joey’s students to showcase their genius ideas to collectively raise money to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal and was dubbed “Kids Can”.
“Beachathon is a yearly walk for St Joseph’s students from Pallarenda back to the school and usually the walk involves raising funds for school resources,” he said.
“But given the constraints on families since Covid, Joey’s focus was on what kids can do to make a difference.
“Our Joey’s students used their entrepreneurial skills to create products and services for our school community and raised $5000.”
Mr Ham said parents joined the fun with a luncheon raising an additional $5000.
“This financial assistance will provide money for emergency relief through blankets and warm clothing for children experiencing homelessness this winter,” he said.
“St Joey’s kids can make a difference in our school through love, community and excellence; our Mercy Values. ‘Kids Can’ was a force to be reckoned with.”
