HEAVY HITTER CHALLENGES LOWRY’S REIGN
WHILE No.1 draft pick Sam Lowry might still be the Tropical Big Bash leading runscorer, Brad Stout has made a bold claim for innings of the tournament.
And it was in a losing effort.
The Reldas Ringers opener notched his first half-century of the tournament with 86 off 57 deliveries on Sunday, but it was not enough as Wildcatz held on to win by one run.
Stout had set himself up through the innings with four sixes and eight boundaries.
Stout gave the Ringers a chance in the final over after dismantling spinner Lachlan Ford for 17 in the 19th over.
But with nine runs needed for victory in the final over, Stout was caught off the first ball from Herbie Heuir.
Home Hill cricketer Brendan Williams attempted to get the job done with a boundary off the final ball, but he finished on 13 not out with the Ringers only able to run two.
Stout (117) now sits third on the competition runscorers list behind Lowry (143) and Craig Mcelligott (122).
