Price is right for Brothers forward

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

JOSEPH Price is adamant he has never worked as hard as he has this season.

The Brothers back-rower, who moved to Townsville last year from the Sunshine Coast, had to work his backside off in the off-season as he aimed to make a name for himself at his new club.

While his dulcet tones have taken up residence in many people’s lives through his work as the newsreader at Starfm, forging a spot in a successful Brothers pack was never going to be as easy.

But for the young backrower, there was never any other option.

“I came up here during Covid last year and got to watch a couple of their games,” he said. “The professionalism and camaraderie, like the name suggests, they are a bunch of Brothers. It was an easy choice to come play for them.

“(I worked) harder than I have ever worked before. I wanted to prove not only to the boys but to myself that I could come up to Townsville and play at the highest grade.”

Price proved he could play in the highest grade and be successful.

The back-rower capped off a massive season with the blue and whites on Sunday, helping the side to an undefeated premiership in the 32-0 grand final win over Centrals Tigers.

Price’s workrate through the clash and his staunch defence made him an easy choice for the judges when picking a player of the grand final.

“This is the best feeling in my rugby league career,’’ he said.

“After moving here from the Sunny Coast, to think I make a Brothers undefeated premiership-winning side, and get player of the grand final, I never would have dreamt it in a million years.”

It was a special occasion for Price because the grand final was his first in A grade.

Price was well supported in the stands. His mum, dad and three brothers all travelled up from the Sunshine Coast to be there at Townsville Sports Reserve.
