BOOK WEEK COSTUME A WINNER

- SAM FLANNAGAN

IN A world where an imagination can get you anywhere, this little girl doesn’t need to look far for inspiration to shoot for the stars.

Charlotte Ferfolja was voted as having the best Book Week costume for 2021 by Townsville Bulletin readers.

The three-year-old dressed as the Mad Hatter

from classic story Alice in Wonderland.

Charlotte’s mum Kerri said her daughter had “hundreds and hundreds” of books in her room.

“She loves reading books, we read at least five books every night,” Ms Whitbread said.

“There’s more books than anything in her bedroom. Her aunty works at the library so we get lots of extras.”

Ms Whitbread, who also

has a love of reading and is a primary school teacher, said the Mad Hatter costume had to be pulled together at the last minute.

“She wanted to go as Room on a Broom (a story about a witch and an array of animals) because that’s one of her favourite books,” Ms Whitbread said.

“But she needed the cat, dog and bed.

“But we were running out of time, so we went with the

Mad Hatter. I thought it suited her personalty.”

Charlotte said some of her other favourite books included Hairy Maclary and Jolly Jumping Jelly Beans.

Ms Whitbread said she was proud Charlotte had fallen in love with books.

“She understands the difference between letters and words and it’s just me encouraging the love of reading and school readiness,” she said.
