Red alert: dancers hit city
AFTER a successful preview season in Townsville, Dancenorth’s production RED is hitting the road.
First stop is the Brisbane Festival this week, with plans already in place for the show to tour to Melbourne, Darwin and Hobart.
Dancenorth’s co-chief executive and artistic director Kyle Page said RED was part of a sellout season in Townsville.
“People attended the performances as part of a preview, which we always do here in Townsville before we take a show anywhere else so our local community can experience it before anyone else,” Mr Page said.
He said they were excited to be taking RED to the Brisbane Festival.
“We have a really strong relationship with Brisbane, the festival and audiences down there,” he said.
In Brisbane, RED will feature a new cast incorporating Dancenorth’s ensemble performers Marlo Benjamin and Nelson Earl (inset).
“Marlo is an award winner at the Australian Dance Awards for Best Female Dancer and Nelson has received two nominations for the Helpmann Awards.
“They are both superb performers,” Mr Page said.
“The thing that they bring to the show is a new energy that has expanded upon and increased the complexity of the show since its preview season here in Townsville.”
After Brisbane, RED will perform at RISING in Melbourne, the Darwin Festival and in Tasmania.
