Brexit is anti-pasta
British fans of the Mediterranean diet risk seeing their supplies cut off as imports of Italian pasta, tomatoes, olive oil and prosciutto plummet due to Brexit bureaucracy.
Italian pasta exports to the UK fell by 28 per cent in the first five months of this year, while exports of extra virgin olive oil fell by 13 per cent, tomato sauce and tinned tomatoes by 16 per cent and Italian cheese by 9 per cent.
“This is caused by bureaucratic and administrative problems due to the UK leaving the European Union,” said the Italian farmers’ lobby group Coldiretti, citing soaring road and sea transport costs.
