JOHNNY MANUEL
Singer Johnny Manuel, 36, was a contestant on season nine of The Voice last year
Do you get your five a day?
Most days I do. I started paying more attention to my health 12 or so years ago and now it’s become a habit.
Have you ever dieted?
I have. I tend to eat low carb, low fat, high protein when I have a shoot or something that I want to be in my best shape for. I’ve also been plant based for over 15 years and some people consider that a diet.
Sleep or sex?
Can it be both?! I love them both but there’s nothing better than a really good night’s sleep for me.
What is your absolute blowout meal?
Pizza. I will eat an entire large pizza by myself if given the chance. I am not huge on sweets but I do love the salted coconut sorbet at Messina so I’d top off the pizza with that. I typically have a pretty big appetite.
Have you had any operations or broken bones?
I’ve never had any broken bones – knock on wood – and the only operation I’ve had was a tonsillectomy in 2010.
What has been your biggest health mistake?
I think my biggest health mistake is stressing. I tend to get really stressed out when I’m busy – I am the worst multitasker alive – or I have a big performance coming up. I often have to force myself to write out my thoughts to sort through them. After I write them down, I meditate and that combination has helped me a lot.
What regular vitamins do you take?
I take omega3, B12 and an immune support vitamin on the regular. I wasn’t big on taking vitamins until a couple years ago and now I’m really good about it. I can definitely feel the difference if I miss taking them for a while.
What health advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago?
Sleep more. I started prioritising sleep a few years ago and it changed my life. It’s something I think a lot of people overlook when thinking about their health but it’s actually one of the best things you can do for your health. I’m sharper when I get proper sleep, it stabilises my mood, which my partner appreciates, and I perform better. It is great.
Would you have plastic surgery or Botox?
I’ve actually not given this much thought but I’m sure I would if I felt the need. It is definitely one of those things that I think every person should decide for themselves. If I thought it would make me feel better about myself then I’d do it.
