Cops’ safety paramount

-

POLICE Minister Mark Ryan has slammed the behaviour of offenders who have targeted Queensland Police Service officers and vehicles in Townsville.

Mr Ryan said the safety frontline officers was always paramount concern.

“My thoughts are with those officers who have been targeted and their families,” he said. “We all owe a great debt of gratitude to the frontline police officers who work tirelessly to keep the community safe.”

Mr Ryan said this was why the government had tough penalties for people who assault police or emergency workers, including up to 14 years in jail.

“That’s why the government is making record investments to make sure that police have the personnel and resources they need,” he said.

“The actions we have seen in recent days are totally deplorable and the individuals involved will be targeted, arrested and dealt with. Make no mistake, police will be relentless in targeting those who do harm to the community and Queensland police officers.”
