Rare gig a gypsy treat
ON the back of a successful year of releases including their Triple J debut, full rotation on Double J, and support from The Music, ABC National, The AU Review, Glide Magazine and AAA Backstage, Dan Baker & The Bookmakers are celebrating the release of their highly acclaimed latest EP, From Corners Quiet.
The Bookmakers will take over the new Sovereign House, as well as the works of Dan Baker, with their unique brand of gypsy honky-tonk in a rare, full-length headline performance.
With an aptitude for eloquent lyricism brought to life with commanding vocals and gripping folk-roots melodies, North Queensland’s Dan Baker, with his band The Bookmakers, has compiled a formidable body of work since his first single release, The Wilderness, in 2019.
Dan has supported the likes of The Whitlams, C.W. Stoneking, Busby Marou, Jessica Mauboy, Mat Mchugh (The Beautiful Girls), Tia Gostelow and Greta Stanley.
His work has been rewarded with the Australian Roots Music Award for Best Song (Like A Robin), as well as earning him a place as finalist in the Qmusic Billy Thorpe Scholarship.
Last year was meant to see Baker playing the Australian Folk Festival and joining Boy and Bear for part of their national tour.
He instead used the time to return to the studio and construct current EP, From Corners Quiet.
