YOUNG STARS ARE SHINING

- SAM FLANAGAN

YOUNG performers who were born to shine are hitting the stage in their hundreds over the coming weeks in order to cement their place in history.

The Townsville Eisteddfod is full steam ahead after being put on the shelf for 2019 and 2020 because of the floods and Covid19 respectively.

Ryan Catholic College’s Year 6 and Under Novelty Chorus team finished third in their event on Friday, much to the delight of its leader.

“I’m ecstatic and so proud of the children, it’s an honour to represent our college,” choral director Melissa Castorina said.

Ms Castorina said the choir, made up of about 35 students, sang Purple People Eater and had been working on the number for two terms.

“To have that experience performing in that big theatre is invaluable,” she said.

“We’re thrilled they got to be involved with a great event like the Townsville Eisteddfod.”

The Townsville Eisteddfod will run for another two weeks at the Civic Theatre.
