HISTORY IN THE MAKING

- NICK WRIGHT

MILESTONES are there for the taking for the AFL Townsville grand finalists.

For the Curra Swans, a maiden premiership double is up for grabs.

For the Hermit Park Tigers, a women’s three-peat and a men’s return to the top.

Training on the same ground for the year, nothing is kept secret between the two outfits.

Men’s coaches Jamie Fogg and Darren Andrews have warmed up their respective sides within 50m of each other, and the friends of more than 20 years have kept in constant touch throughout the campaign.

So there was no need for spies or reconnaissance missions on grand final eve.

Having each defeated the other twice this season, nothing except performance on the day will matter.

For the women, a pair of leading contenders for the competition’s best and fairest will battle it out.

Curra ace Stephanie Simmonds, the most creative and lethal goal kicker, is out to inspire a maiden flag.

But with Hayley Cornish wearing the Tigers colours, it is anyone’s guess who will win the match. Fasten up for one of the most eagerly awaited grand final days in Townsville Aussie rules.
