CANCER SURVIVOR GIVES BACK
STILL standing strong after two battles against cancer, a Townsville woman is giving back to the people who supported her when she needed it most.
One of the 223 participants in Townsville’s 2021 Relay For Life, which took place on Saturday at James Cook University, Laura Edwards, 31, and her team, Carnival for a Cure, secured the top prize for fundraising more than $5000 for the Cancer Council.
Featuring live entertainment and fun activities, the Relay For Life event saw teams walking around a track to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and raise money to help save more lives.
Although Covid restrictions forced the traditional 24hour event to be shortened to nine hours, the event managed to raise $44,355 for the worthy charity.
