More needs to be done, and now
Townsville mum Kaycee Thomas was one of the lucky ones, granted an exemption for her son Nate to return home after 12 weeks stuck in NSW with his grandparents. What started out as a fun school holiday trip turned into a nightmare for the family.
There is no doubt that the pressure from the community on our political leaders to show some compassion is having an effect. Now all that is needed is the resourcing to allow more exemptions to be granted.
Ms Thomas said she was forever thankful for those people who helped her out, even those at the exemption office who stayed back until 10pm on Thursday to process more applications.
All that does is serves to highlight that more needs to be done, and now.
