HEAVY HITTER BLASTS CATZ TO GLORY

GARTRELL FIRES IN FINAL

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

HE is one of the most damaging hitters in North Queensland, and Dan Gartrell left his best to last.

The Wildcatz master blaster let loose in the Mendi Tropical Big Bash final, entertaining the crowd and leaving plenty ducking for cover.

But it was a timely half century that put the grand final underdogs in the box seat to topple tournament frontrunners EV2 Lions.

Gartrell’s powerful display helped the Wildcatz set their opponents a better than a run-a-ball chase for the title, which proved to be a bridge too far.

While Gartrell set up his side, it was ultimatelty player of the grand final Herbie Heuir who brought the win home with a sizzling spell of spin bowling that included a four-wicket-haul.

Heuir’s strong tournament, which included 11 wickets, was enough to see him called in from the representative wilderness.
